2011 Challenge

A Royal Wedding

In celebration of the marriage of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales, K.G. with Miss Catherine Middleton

Royal Wedding

The Royal Wedding was the inspiration for this year's Challenge.  Design pieces consisted of at least one bead and were appropriate to be worn or carried to the wedding.  We had necklaces, bracelets, a purse, a hat, and earrings.  Each entrant included a snippet from her diary entry of April 29th about her experience at the royal affair.  These were on display along with the pieces at our Tea Reception at the September 26th program.  The judges' winners were announced, and we voted for Members' Choice.  This year we had three categories - beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

Bonnie DeSautelle won Members' Choice for the second year in a row!

Our Judges:

Petra Dekan

It was an honor for me to be asked to be one of the judges for the Royal Wedding.
Before opening Nottingham Beads in 2004,  I invested in a room filled with beautiful fabric (for making quilts) and beads (for making jewelry).  I loved making quilts, which took weeks and sometimes months to complete.   Then I discovered beaded jewelry, which I thought I could only buy.   After taking classes from talented teachers & artists like Cynthia Rutledge, Tracey Stanley just to mention a few I was hooked!

I enjoy one-of-kind pieces of jewelry and therefore making them allows me the freedom to create pieces that make me sparkle or put a huge smile on my face.   My passions are high quality beads, pearls, crystals and also fabric.  I love color and texture!

I have three daughters and they have blessed me with the most wonderful 12 grandchildren ranging in ages 6 months to 13 years old.  I think it is so much better being a grandparent then it is to be a parent.  The best part of grandparenting is that the grandkids cannot wait to see you while your own kids couldn’t wait to leave and be with their friends.

My husband and I have a 350-acre farm near Branson, Missouri and use it primarily for raising cattle and hunting.  We are privileged to spend 12 days a month in the Ozarks before we head back home.  I enjoy cooking, reading, and taking pictures which I do much of when I am at the farm.

I want to thank all of you for the privilege for being able to participate in such a tough job of judging some of the most beautiful pieces of beaded jewelry.

Since her introduction to beading in 2004, she has practically forsaken all other creative endeavors and now focuses most of her energy on beading. Originally from Chicago, she relocated to the Milwaukee area with her husband (who is a chef) and her five-year old daughter to develop her passion for beading into a full time career.
