We can not wait for the Spring Retreat at the Radisson Hotel Racine Harbourwalk and hope you can join us!

The Special Events Committee has worked hard to put together an exciting schedule of classes taught by experienced artists/instructors. Whether you are new to the Society or one of our most experienced artists, there is something new for you to learn. From stitching to polymer clay, this variety of classes will add to your weekend of fun! Of course, the Open Beading room will be hopping with activity. If you manage to resist these offerings, we still want you to join us for the weekend or a day of creative camaraderie.

Hotel Accommodations


Radisson Hotel Racine Harbourwalk
223 Gas Light Circle, Racine, WI 53403

$103 per night. For reservations, call the Radisson directly at 262-632-7777 and ask for "Loose Bead Society Retreat 2012". Reservations must be made by February 9th.  Parking is $1.50 per ramp entry.

Weekend Schedule

Friday, 6-7:30pm - FREE
All are invited to Hot Shop Glass where our friend, Amanda Paffrath, will amaze us with a glass blowing demonstration. Then we'll head back to the Radisson for Demo with Dessert.

Friday, 8:00pm-until ? - $10
Open Beading and Demo with Dessert – Cindy Collins
Enjoy dessert while Cindy demonstrates chainmaille techniques.  Cindy will have a free sample pack for everyone attending, so don't forget to sign up! You'll need to bring two pairs of pliers (chainnose and/or flatnose) to practice techniques taught in this inspiring demo.

Saturday, all day
Open beading in the Harbourview Room.  Lunch will be served at 12:15pm in the Zephyr Room.

Saturday, 5:30pm
Reception and Shopping at Funky Hannah's Beads and Art at 324 Main Street. Enjoy complimentary beverages, homemade appetizers, and 10% off everything, courtesy of Amanda and the Funky's gals.

Saturday evening
Enjoy dinner on your own at one of the many great area restaurants (check out this link for a very extensive list with addresses, phone numbers, and website links:  http://www.racinedowntown.com/rest.html).  Then return to a fun evening of beading with old friends and new acquaintances. Modest pajamas are acceptable attire for this evening.


Sunday, all day
Open beading in the Harbourview Room.  Lunch will be served at 12:15pm in the Zephyr Room.

This year our classes and demos cover stitching, polymer clay, buttons, and glass ornament making!

Supply lists will be e-mailed to class participants.  If you don't have an e-mail address, don't worry!  Just make sure you include your mailing address on the registration form.

Brick Stitch Wheel Pendant - Cheryl Erickson

Make a unique textured pendant using brick stitch and a huge variety of beads.  Each row is a different bead, style, and color.  You will have so much fun making this that your pieces will get larger and larger.  You'll never want to stop!  Pendant can be worn on a ribbon or add a bail, it's up to you.

Learn basic polymer clay techniques including: conditioning, mixing, texturing, coloring, surface treatments, cutting, layering, and embedding objects.  You will also learn how to attach bails and drill holes.

Note:  Class fee includes supplies for two pendants and two pairs of earrings.  The instructor will also provide tools to share in class.  Additional supplies available for purchase.

Enjoy making these fun medallions.  Stitch them together to make a fantastic bracelet with its own unique clasp or make two small ones for earrings or a large one for a pendant.  Possibilities are endless with fun colors of seed beads and the great twisting action in the pattern.

Create a diamond-shaped tila bead base using right-angle weave, then embellish the top with 4mm crystals.  A dazzling bracelet you can finish during the Retreat and wear home!

Raid Grandma's button box, use those special buttons you've been saving, or glean from a stash of vintage buttons graciously donated by Brenda Schweder.  Helen Dahms also is donating some from her stash.  Several strands of p'leather and different kinds of buttons (shank, two-holed, or four-holed) create the elements of the design.  Voila!  A wonderful piece of art to wear using all those buttons.

You'll enjoy making this curvy wave of crystals to go around your wrist.  Using different sizes and colors of crystal rondelles and brick stitch creates a wonderful texture and a beautiful feel.  Easy and fast.

Make cube beads using bicone beads.  These little jewels make a great focal alone, or string them for a fabulous necklace.  Smaller ones are spectacular earrings.  You will receive patterns for all four beads and complete one large bead in class.

Cheryl Erickson


Cheryl Erickson is a professional bead artist and national bead instructor whose work has been featured in books and galleries.  Cheryl, who has been beading since 1977, manages her bead store, Artistic Bead, Inc. and hosts a web site www.artisticbead.com.  She carries a full line of kits, instructions and mini books to share her passion of teaching beading.

Cheryl Erickson
Samantha Mitchell was introduced to the wonderful world of beading 4 years ago when she was asked to proofread instructions by Anna Elizabeth Draeger. While proofreading these instructions, Samantha decided she wanted to start designing and creating her own jewelry. She has been designing and teaching her creations for the past 3 years.
