Teach a Bead Class at Badger Association for the Blind
The Badger Association of the Blind is hoping to have a beading-stringing class. If you’d like to volunteer to
teach it, please call Rose at 414-615-0115. Days and times would be determined by the teacher(s).
Appreciation guaranteed!
This is not an official LBS project, but we’ve offered to post this request in our newsletter and website. LBS has
been collecting large-hole beads and other supplies for Badger Association to use in the classes.
The Cinderella Project
What is a girl to do when she is invited to the prom but her family does not have the money to get her a dress?
This is where the Cinderella Project steps in. If she qualifies, the girl is given a dress lovingly donated by
a member of the community.
In addition to providing a free prom dress, the aim of the Cinderella Project MKE is to foster self-esteem for
area high school girls and teach valuable life lessons. In order to receive a free prom dress, the girls must
complete an application package which consists of a short essay on why they are deserving of the dress and a
letter of support from an adult mentor (teacher, pastor, employer or community center employee). Participants
attended a two-hour workshop that covered various topics including nutrition and fitness, self-esteem,
healthy relationships and prom choices. This workshop ran during the week of February 22nd-26th.
The Loose Bead Society's goal in this effort is to provide finished pieces of jewelry to go along with the
dresses. We are using the leftover crystals donated by Swarovski for the January program to make earrings
and necklaces, but since there are about 200 girls signed up to receive the dresses, we are asking for donations
from our members. Bring your donations to our meetings or to any of our events. If you're coming to the Spring
Retreat, that is a good time to make a few pieces. The girls will be "shopping" on April 3rd at the Bradley Center.
All the donated jewelry will be brought to Center during set-up on April 2nd so we'll need to have the pieces by
then.

Chemo Cap Project
The Loose Bead Society is working with the Reinhart Chemo Cap Crew to make and decorate hats for
women who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. The caps help to keep their heads warm and
to help the women feel good about themselves during this traumatic time. Read more about it, see
pictures, and find out how you can contribute here.
Haitian Relief Effort
In January of 2010, Loose Bead Society members assisted Bartolotta Restaurants to make a
number of beaded bracelets to aid the children of Haiti after the devastating earthquake.
