Loose Bead Society of Greater Milwaukee Membership Meeting Minutes
November 2007- New Berlin Public Library
President's
Report:
-
Rhonda called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
She thanked everyone for their kind cards and wishes as she recuperated
from surgery the past couple of months.
-
Announcement that the Hot Glass Shop in Racine will be open on Saturdays in
December.
-
Rhonda asked if everyone received sales cards from Midwest Beads recently. Take
your membership card with you if going shopping to be sure to receive discounts.
-
Artist and Display has come out with new classes; many in multi media that may
be of interest.
- A
local bead store wants to know if the society members would be interested in
participating in a "bead lock down" in the future.
This would be at a local spot (hotel?) and everyone would bead all night
with prizes, etc.
-The
retreat invitations were mailed out recently and the class samples were on
display at the meeting .
Vice
President- Programming's Report:
-
Renee and new programming committee recently met to begin planning 2008 monthly
programs. So far a great lineup has been drafted around the theme of "The
Well Rounded Beader". More information will follow soon; look for more
programs with mini demonstrations such as we had in August this year.
-
Tonight's program will feature faux enamelling.
-
December is the annual holiday party and silent auction.
Items are needed for the silent auction and can be brought in that
evening.
Vice
President- Special Event's Report:
-
Suzanne was absent this evening. Look for the annual Bead and Button class
brochure to be mailed out soon.
-The
Milwaukee Bead Show is the last Sunday in February.
We will have a table and need volunteers.
A reminder that it will be in a new location; the 4 Seasons Hotel near
the airport.
Secretary's
Report:
-
Debbie reminded members to turn Vintag Challenge pieces in to her tonight.
The Nottingham staff will be judging the pieces in the next week and
notify winners by the end of the month. They
plan to display all pieces in their store the month of December; members are to
pick their work up after that at the store since we won't have a regular
membership meeting at the library in January. Anyone with problems getting out
to Nottingham should contact Debbie for help. Rhonda mentioned that it would be
good to display these pieces at our booth at the Milwaukee Bead show and/or the
Bead and Button show; the work is fabulous.
Treasurer's
Report:
- No financial activity this month. The balance is $1724.82.
- Ann handed out coupons for Joanne's fabrics to the members.
Website
Report:
- Pat will have the retreat information, class sample pictures and
registration forms on the website by the end of the week or so.
Newsletter:
- Susan Duehl will no longer be doing the newsletter. Cindy Collin is
replacing her; welcome, Cindy! The next newsletter will be out sometime in
December.
Membership:
- We currently have 128 members. No
guests attended tonight.
- The suggestion box is on the membership table as are directories and
business cards for the society. Feel
free to take cards and hand them out to interested people.
- Julie explained a bylaws amendment concerning dues and prorating fees.
Instead of having dues prorated quarterly, the change would be to let the
Board of Directors determine prorating. This would allow us to offer specials at
the Bead and Button show, etc. The amendment passed by a unanimous vote.
Miscellaneous
- Discussion on
attendance at the various shopping nights local bead stores have offered the
membership. Some have been
successful and some have not. The
board will discuss future shopping nights at their next meeting.
The
program was presented by Renee Corya on faux enamelling.
Thank you, Renee, for an interesting and informative presentation..
Approximately 35-40 members attended tonight's meeting.
Respectfully
submitted,
Debbie Bednarek
