Bead Society of Greater Milwaukee Board Meeting
August 4, 2008- Uno’s Restaurant in Brookfield
Members Present: Renee Corya, Debbie Bednarek, Ann Cook, Cindy Collins, Kathy
Willmering, Pat Fricano, Julie Miller, Judy Ludwig, Jan Mueller, Brenda Schweder,
Carla Sikorski, Becky Conrad-LaMere
Renee opened the meeting thanking everyone
for attending and outlining what she felt were the most pressing issues at hand.
- As acting President, Renee wanted to appoint Sue Stachelski to become acting
vice president of programming for the duration of 2008. Cindy will confirm
Sue’s acceptance on this and communicate her answer to the board via email.
- Discussion on the importance of
the vice president of special programming position in terms of 2009 events such
as the retreat, participation in the Milwaukee Bead Show, State Fair and Bead
and Button.
-Ann Cook made a motion to move the monthly board meetings to the evening of the
monthly membership meeting as stated in the bylaws. Kathy Willmering seconded
the motion and it passed. Starting in September, the board meeting will be held
one hour before the membership meeting at the library each month instead of the
first Monday of each month.
- Kathy had several questions regarding the duties of the membership
chairperson. The bylaws state that she is to take attendance at each meeting;
that had been dropped several years ago. The number of members who attend each
meeting is more important in terms of planning for programming than is
individual attendance records. She needed clarification on new member brochures
and on new member recruitment as well.
- Discussion regarding emailing the newsletter to members to save on mailing
hard copies. Cindy Collins made a motion seconded by Ann Cook to give members
the option of receiving the newsletter via email or regular mail. Motion was
passed. Kathy and Cindy will coordinate this beginning with 2009 and membership
renewals.
- Much discussion on the issue of running the organization, from co chairing
various chair positions, communicating needs to the membership, forming more
committees and rewriting the bylaws. Ann
Cook made a motion to present the potential for co chairing positions to the
membership for at least the two vice president positions. There was no second to
the motion. The issue was tabled for further discussion at the September board
meeting.
- Much discussion regarding all that is involved in planning and executing the
annual retreat and other special events. Discussion on forming a committee for
participation in the Milwaukee Bead Show was also tabled for further discussion
at the September meeting.
- Brenda Schweder volunteered to act as vice president of special events for the
duration of 2008. Ann Cook made a
motion to accept Brenda in this role and Kathy Willmering seconded it; motion
passed. Brenda will contact Suzanne
Leberman for information needed to proceed.
- Ann Cook informed the group that the debit cards the society used in the past
are all cancelled. All expenses
require a receipt signed by the President before payment is made.
Also, any members who receive “free” membership for the following
year after presenting at a program will now be entered in the treasurer books as
a payment or expense the month they present.
Respectfully submitted,
Debbie Bednarek
