Loose Bead Society of Greater Milwaukee
Board Meeting Minutes- January 7, 2008
7:00 p.m.-Uno’s Restaurant in Brookfield
President’s Report:
- Rhonda brought up the idea of
having an activity this year for our December holiday party. It would get people
moving and interacting more. Ideas were discussed, such as the game “Bead
Trader”. Also discussion on the silent auction; asking local stores
for donations, advertising items ahead of time, etc. Will revisit this in the
coming months.
- It costs $6 to get another key
for the post office box and Julie applied for one. She also has the form to add
new people to be authorized for the box.
Vice President- Programming Report:
-
Renee announced that the programming committee is meeting on January 19th.
All is set for the January meeting sale at Knot Just Beads. Hours are 5 to 8
p.m. and Rhonda and Debbie will be there in the beginning. For February, Ann
Cook is preparing a presentation on starting a bead business.
Renee has contacted Chris, the gemstone dealer in Oak Creek, for a
presentation in March on gemstones. Aprils’
stitch program still needs demonstrators for peyote and brick stitch. Currently Debbie Bednarek is going to demo right angle weave,
Kim Reuth will do Ndeble, and Laurie Kestelman will do spiral rope.
-
Renee plans to put something in the next newsletter regarding encouraging
members to come forward with ideas for programs and possible talents they may
wish to share with the membership.
-
Pat needs information on the upcoming programs from Renee for the
website.
-
Discussion on May’s group project format and focus.
The programming committee will work further on this and all ideas on the
19th.
Vice President- Special Events’ Report:
-
Suzanne will begin recruiting volunteers for the Bead and Button show in
February.
-
The retreat preparation is coming along fine and we have a few
registrations to date for the retreat. There will be a retreat committee meeting
at the end of the month.
-
Anyone who wants to volunteer at the LBS table at the Milwaukee Bead Show
February 24th should look on the website or contact Suzanne.
Secretary’s Report:
-Debbie
had nothing to report. The Vintaj
pieces have been returned to their owners except for Barbara Talaska, who needs
to pick her piece up at Nottingham Beads.
Membership Report:
-
Julie is processing applications for the 2008 year and will send out
cards as she gets renewals.
-
She needs to update the brochure to have it ready for the Milwaukee Bead
Show
Newsletter:
-
Discussion on dealing with Kinko’s for printing and mailing the
newsletter. Cindy is working out the glitches for the next time. The
paper will be upgraded and Cindy will choose a colored paper next time.
-
Discussion on advertising rates and what percentage of the newsletter
should be advertising. Decision was made that a maximum of 25% of the newsletter
would be ads.
-
Decision was made that
corporate members who pay the $100 dues will receive a business card sized ad
free in each issue as well as the two memberships, a listing in the newsletter
and a mailed membership directory. The
$50 membership for corporate receives one membership, the listing in the
newsletter but no ad.
-
The price of a full page ad, such as Softflex wanted, was discussed. We
need to know the cost of a flyer insertion to determine the ad cost.
-
Business card sized ads for anyone not a corporate member are not
available at this time.
-
Julie Miller is Cindy’s editor for the newsletter.
Treasurer’s Report:
-
Ann handed out a report on the Silent Auction details from the December
meeting. A total of $318.50 was collected from the auction.
-
Ann handed out a report on registration for the upcoming bead retreat.
The deadline for registering is March 1st.
-
The board also examined the latest report on the 2007 budget.
Rhonda will be having back surgery once
again on February 19th. Suzanne
Leberman will run the monthly membership meetings in Rhonda’s absence (March
and possibly April) and it will be determined at a later date if a board meeting
in her absence will be necessary. We wish Rhonda the best in her recovery from
this surgery!
Respectfully submitted,
Debbie Bednarek
